I have finished my Eagle Project and collected over 6000 books!! Thanks to everybody who donated!

My Eagle Project was to collect 5000 books to start a school library in Mozambique. Mozambique is in southern Africa, and it is highlighted in red on the above map. This school is named Rapale International School and is located in Rapale, which is northwest of Nampula, in northern Mozambique.  It is open to all.

The idea to start a school there originally came from Andrew Cunningham, a Zimbabwean farmer who immigrated to Mozambique. There was significant support for the idea.  The president of Mozambique and his wife were both in favor of an excellent school, and so were the missionaries whose small school was incorporated into this new school. The native Mozambicans were also in favor of it because they knew that the only road out of poverty is education, and they wanted their children to have a good education.

This English-speaking school needed international accreditation, however. One of the requirements was that the school must have a certain type of library. This would be very hard for them to get. A friend of mine told me about this situation, and I decided to make this my Eagle project. An Eagle project is a service project that a boy leads. It is a requirement for the Eagle Scout, the highest award in the Boy Scouts of America.

I created this website so that people could find out more about the Rapale International School and my Eagle project. If you have any questions or would like to communicate with us, please visit the Contact Us page. Please also visit the Links page to find out about the school, our sponsor the International Book Project, and about the Eagle Scout Award.
